Access Trash in Google Docs

Follow the steps below to access the trash on Google Docs.

1. Open Google Drive from the Google Docs Main Page

Access the Google Drive where deleted files are stored. On the Google Docs main page, click on the Google Apps icon (grid in the top-right corner).

From the list of services, select “Drive” to open Google Drive in a new tab.

2. Navigate to the Trash Folder in Google Drive

Find deleted files by going to the trash section. Once in Google Drive, look at the left-hand side menu. Click on the “Trash” folder to view all files that have been deleted.

3. Filter Files to Show Documents Only

At the top of the Trash folder, click on the “Type” dropdown menu. 

Select “Documents” to filter out all other file types and only display deleted Google Docs files.

4. Search for the Deleted Document in Trash

Find the file you deleted by scrolling or using the search bar. After filtering, scroll through the list of deleted documents, or use the search bar at the top to locate the specific document you want to recover or check.

5. Restore or Permanently Delete the Document

Recover the file or remove it permanently based on your preference. Right-click on the document you found. Select “Restore” to recover it, moving it back to your Google Drive, or choose “Delete forever” if you want to erase it permanently.
