Locking a Table in Google Docs
Follow the steps below to lock a table on Google Docs.
1. Highlight the Entire Table in Google Docs
Select the table by clicking and dragging your cursor over it, covering all rows and columns. Press “Ctrl + C” (Windows) or “Cmd + C” (Mac) to copy the selected table for the next steps.
2. Insert a New Drawing to Use as a Table Container
Select “Insert” in the top menu, then hover over “Drawing“. Click on “New” to open a new Google Drawings interface. This will allow us to lock the table.
3. Paste the Copied Table into the Google Drawing Canvas
In the Google Drawings interface, paste the copied table by pressing “Ctrl + V” (Windows) or “Cmd + V” (Mac). This action will place the table into the drawing canvas.
4. Save the Drawing to Insert the Locked Table Back into Your Document
Click on “Save and Close” to save the drawing, which will then insert the drawing with the locked table back into your Google Docs document.
5. Adjust the Size and Position of the Locked Table Drawing
Click on the inserted drawing and use the corners to resize or drag it to reposition the locked table within your document as needed.
6. Confirm the Table is Locked by Checking for Blue Handles at the Edges
After inserting the drawing, click on it. If blue handles appear at the edges of the table, it means the table is now locked and cannot be directly edited. This ensures the sample data set remains protected from accidental changes.
