1. Highlight Your Text

2. Navigate to the Indentation Options

Highlight your text then click on the Format menu in the toolbar at the top of your Google Docs page. Move your cursor to Align & indent to open a secondary menu. From this menu, select Indentation options. This will open a small dialog box on the right side of your screen.

3. Set Up the Hanging Indent

In the Indentation options dialog box, you will see various settings that control the appearance of the text. Click on the drop-down menu for Special Indent and select Hanging. The enter the value in the box for how far you want to indent the text. A common setting is 0.5 inches, which means that all lines except the first will be indented by half an inch.

4. Apply the Handing Indent

Click the Apply button at the bottom of the Indentation options dialog box. Your text will automatically update to reflect the new formatting. The first line will stay aligned with the left margin, and all subsequent lines of the paragraph will be indented by the amount you specified.

Look over your paragraph to make sure the indent is to your satisfaction. If you need to adjust the depth of the indent, you can simply highlight the text again, return to the Indentation options, and modify the value in the box before clicking Apply again.
