To convert text to table in Google Docs, we will work with a dataset containing descriptions of coffee types and their associated data—quantities received, sold, and remaining stock, formatted as plain text. Follow the steps below.

1. Place Your Cursor Where You Want to Insert the Table

Click on the document where you want to insert the table. For example, let’s place our cursor after the text that describes the coffee shop inventory list.

2. Access the ‘Insert Table’ Menu from the Toolbar

Go to the toolbar at the top of your screen, click on Insert, then hover over Table. From the dropdown menu, choose the size of the table that corresponds to the number of columns you need. In our example, we must select a table with four columns and three rows.

3. Manually Copy and Paste Text into the Table

Copy each data point manually into the corresponding cell of the table. In our example, let’s start by copying “Espresso Beans” and then paste it into the first cell of the first row. Continue this process to fill the entire table.

4. Add More Rows for Headers (Optional)

First, place your cursor in the first row of the table. This ensures that the new row will be inserted at the top.

Right-click on the table and select Insert row above from the context menu. 

In this new row, enter the headers. In our example, they are “Coffee Type”, “Received”, “Sold”, and “Remaining”.

5. Format the Table for Clarity and Visual Appeal

With the table in place, enhance its readability and style. Select the table and use the toolbar to adjust the font type, size, and color, align text within cells, or add shading to alternate rows. These changes can help differentiate between types of data and make your table easier to read.
